Dear Jen,

We need to replace the flat roof on our building and have been told that modified bitumen roll roofing is not as good as TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) roofing. What are your thoughts on these products?

John

Dear John,

Both products will provide similar warranties based on how they are installed.  Modbit is either torched down which can be dangerous or cold applied with an adhesive which tends to be messy at the seams. TPO can be fully adhered with an adhesive but the seams are heat welded giving a better, cleaner seam. Any patching is also heat welded. TPO also is known for its energy saving properties.
